Nano Business Saturday

This day was founded by American Express in 2010 along with the Small Business Administration. It’s actually called Small Business Saturday, a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities. I mentioned to my wife, Sue, that maybe we should have a Micro Business Saturday campaign, and she said, “more like a nano business,” and we had a good laugh.

On my last post, I mentioned that I was going to take some time off from the road and live performance because I am concentrating on music licensing, or trying to sell music to TV and Film. I’ve shopped ten pieces, and one has been forwarded so far. I’m hopeful like the farmer.

Sue and I went for a walk with Mavis, our beagle, here in middle Tennessee at a state park called Cummins Falls. The weather was just right; clear, not too chilly for this time of year and no wind. Unfortunately, the walking path down to the overlook for the falls was closed for repairs. But we salvaged the morning and found other trails to follow. Mavis’ nose was on sniffing overload. On the way home, on the radio, we were reminded about Small Business Saturday. That’s when I got the idea to participate except with a nano campaign. So here goes…

In need of a holiday gift? Please visit Bandcamp, take a look around and have at it.

But wait there’s more!!! One other offering I’d like to add is a digital download of eight songs from my early Nashville days from a live recording at The Bluebird Cafe and some studio tracks from 1984. Yes that’s right, 1984, a couple of years ago. This collection will be called Early Nashville Days Vol. 1.

“Hold On” from the Taylor Rhodes session 1984…

This version of “Hold On,” featuring Roger Cox on drums, Jerry McKuen on bass, Jeff Jarvis on keyboards and yours truly on guitar and vocals, is an example of what will be on Early Nashville Days Vol. 1. It was recorded on an eight track analog recorder at Taylor Rhodes Studio in Nashville. I toured in 1983 with Tommy Overstreet with Roger and Jeff. Jerry toured with Crystal Gayle. I learned about session musicianship from Jerry, and he toured with me through 1986. The song is written by Geoffrey Himes and Billy Kemp.

Here’s wishing everyone a healthy and happy holiday season.

Cheers,

Billy
