New Song, New Video- “Like Water On Venus”

,

In celebration of the Artemis 2 lunar fly-by I decided to release a new song and video that may be a track on a future record. As many of you know, I was a big fan of the Paul Giamatti/Stephen Asma podcast, The Chinwag. They had episodes that featured discussion about the moon, outer space and alien-life forms, featuring guests such as Avi Loeb and William Shatner. The show really inspired this new song, “Like Water On Venus.” I wrote the song in February 2025 and did the video in January 2026. I’ve been sitting on it trying to decide whether to release it or wait for another record.

So here it is and I hope you like it.

As always, thanks for supporting my website and live music…

Billy

    Hey Billy,

    Thanks for the fun song!

We hope all’s well with you and Sue.

Other than the usual kinds of ravages of old age, all’s well here. 😊

I really like that song Billy. Great beat and lyrics. Also the graphics made me smile, especially Venus with an old tap sticking out of her!

    Unique!

Hi Annie, Thank you for watching. The beat came from a sampled Roy Smeck acoustic guitar that I recorded in England in Barnsley about 2019, owned by my friend and fellow musician, Dave Bottomley.I put the sampled guitar into something called Samplr (that is how it is spelled) and the beat just kind of happened. The whole song was built around that pulse, it was a fun way to start a song. The drawing of Venus with the tap was my drawing but the idea came from a similar image I saw online. I did the drawing in Procreate…Best to you and John…

Hi Billy I liked your direct attention to the camera for this video. Excellent. I have not heard about Sue for a while, so perhaps this song is about her. Around 1980, I took Aurelius and Candace to the Waverly Theater in New York City’s Village to see a midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, with audience participation, based on the original London theatre production directed by Australian Jim Sharman and starring Tim Curry as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. I didn’t realize, until I read Tim’s “Vagabond: A Memoir” (2025), how much work he has done since. “Waiting on the Moon: Artists, Poets, Drifters, Grifters and Goddesses” (2025), a memoir by Peter Wolf, lead singer for the J. Geils Band, is a wild romp through the popular culture of the 1970s, quite a bit focused on his marriage to actress Faye Dunaway, and their home, two buildings south of ours at The Unit, 315 Central Park West. Friday night we opened the 2026 music season at the Little Market Café, which runs into September and October. With best wishes Ken

Greetings Ken, Thanks for watching. Sue’s contribution to this song was the beagle/big foot tee shirt. I learned from the podcast, The Chinwag, that at this moment in time it takes three days to get to the moon, which we just saw with Artemis 2. Then I looked about the fastest possible way to travel and discovered super luminal and I was off to the races. It was fun to write and even more fun to make the recording and video. There is a sampled pulsating Roy Smeck acoustic guitar part underneath that I think helps the track along, recorded in a modern way…

Love this, Billy – partly because although you address the camera very directly, there are little “sparkles” and you look like you are having so much fun! And “lost in space” has to be how so many of us are feeling these days. What a fun song!

Greetings, I’m forgetting who this is but thank you for watching and your comments. You are so right about the sparkles and the fun. The song was fun to make so why not the video? My wife, Sue, gave me the beagle/big foot tee shirt for Xmas and when it came time to make the video I thought that wearing that tee would speak volumes about how shattered the singer was about his moon partner…And yes, so many of us are lost in space these days. But I guess you gotta get lost if you wanna get found…

Hi Billy! I used to see you in California when you played here. My name is Carol and I especially remember you from Bill Wagman’s house concerts. I’m from West Virginia. No reason you would remember me – just someone who enjoys your music!

Thank you Carol. I’ll try and remember for any future comments. Were Bill Wagman’s concerts in Davis?

Thanks so much for sharing your timely new song, Billy, I love it. The recent NASA mission around the moon and back was virtually flawless; a ray of hope in these troubled times. JH

Very catchy melody and chorus Billy. I like it a lot. Venus’ temp can melt lead, so chances are Venus never had water to go anywhere.

Greetings Tucker, Thanks for your comment. I’m playing your Fender Precision on that track, what a lovely bass. I got it in a trade with Troy Hanna, we have talked about that before right? Yes, you are correct, the scientists are not aligned about water on Venus. But I liked the title and went with it. Thanks for listening and watching. Best to you…
